Tax time for most Americans is as exciting as getting ready to see the dentist. Fortunately for Central Texans, there are a number of FREE resources available to help out seniors, families, and even students with their taxes and FAFSA forms.

Our friends over at Foundation Communities run the Community Tax centers, a FREE resources that offers free income tax preparation to low-income individuals and families at various locations in and around Austin, Texas. This service is free of charge to individuals with no dependents earning up to $25,000 annually and families earning up to $50,000. Income eligibility limits increase for families with more than four members.

Free Tax Help Requirements: There are two kinds of free tax preparation sites in Williamson County. Both sites file returns electronically and will assist filers of any age.
• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites – only accept people whose income does not exceed the EITC’s maximum income ceiling (about $50,000).
• AARP’s Tax-Aide (TCE) sites – do not have any restrictions on income.
