On April 24th, 2009, Austin Groups for the Elderly, a Central Texas non-profit organization committed to serving seniors, their caregivers and their families, will celebrate Central Texans who make the community a better place for our elders, including Jackie Lelong.
Jackie Lelong, founder of fellow senior service organization Family Eldercare, will be honored with the Bert Kruger Smith Vision Award, recognizing a person or organization whose vision has enhanced the senior community and who has shown foresight and energy in implementing programs, services, or legislation that serves older adults. Her passion for caregiver support and understanding is admired by all those she has worked with.
Lelong, like AGE’s founder Bert Kruger Smith, strongly believed in supporting senior causes and worked on many initiatives including the early development of AGE and the founding of Family Eldercare-a long-time tenant of the AGE building. “Jackie is the epitome of an activist-founder” says AGE Executive Director Joyce Lauck. “While working on an issue that she was passionate about, she discovered unmet need in the community, and created a highly successful agency to meet it.”
The 15th Annual AGE Awards is Friday April 24, 2009 at the University of Texas Alumni Center, from 6-9PM.
