AGE Awards Recognize Mittes’ Commitment to Seniors

On April 24th, 2009, Austin Groups for the Elderly, a Central Texas non-profit organization committed to serving seniors, their caregivers and their families, will recognize the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation for their extraordinary generosity and support of organizations that advocate on the behalf of older adults.

The Mitte Foundation, founded by successful businessman John F. Mitte and his wife Joanne Cole Mitte is committed “to lighting a candle against the darkness of poverty and ignorance,” supports vital services, including affordable housing, education, health care, and, of course, senior citizen services. Mrs. Mitte was a well-known advocate for senior issues, and her legacy is continued today through the foundation’s commitment to seniors as a key area to support.

“Following Roy and Joann’s lead, the Mitte Foundation has a deep understanding of what makes a successful community and goes above and beyond in their support of organizations that tackle those needs” says AGE Executive Director Joyce Lauck. “The Mitte Foundation is the perfect example of an organization that recognizes critical community needs and takes the initiative to address them.”

The Philanthropy Award honoring the Mitte Foundation has been bestowed upon other outstanding organizations, like the St. David’s Community Foundation and Lions Clubs of Central Texas whose extraordinary generosity has supported work on behalf of older adults. The 15th Annual AGE Awards celebrates Central Texans who make the community better for our elders. An evening of fun, festivities and energy, the event honors five extraordinary individuals and organizations, in addition to raising funds for AGE’s vital services.

Austin Groups for the Elderly is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been serving Austin’s elderly, their families, and caregivers since 1986. Our programs include Elderhaven Adult Day Centers, the Caregivers Resource Center, SeniorNet Computer Learning Center, and the AGE non profit tenancy program.

The 15th Annual AGE Awards is Friday April 24, 2009 at the University of Texas Alumni Center, from 6-9PM.
